Budget Operations Administrator: The Public Interest Network
The Budget Department of The Public Interest Network seeks a smart, committed, and detail-oriented candidate to join our team as an Operations Administrator in Chicago, IL or Denver, CO.
The Public Interest Network operates more than a dozen organizations committed to a shared vision of a better world, a set of core values, and a strategic approach to social change. These groups include U.S. PIRG, Environment America, Green Corps, and the National Environmental Law Center and encompass 400-plus staff. We tackle some of the biggest challenges facing our country today, such as delivering clean air, clean water and a livable climate to the next generation; transforming our energy and transportation systems for the 21st century; growing food in ways that leave both people and the planet healthier; and responding to the worst public health crisis in a century.
In order to achieve these results, the groups in The Public Interest Network need a strong support staff to provide the resources, guidance, and infrastructure it takes to make progress on these issues. For more than 40 years, organizations in The Public Interest Network (TPIN) have been taking on powerful interests on behalf of the American public, working to win concrete results for our health and well-being. Together our organizations have helped pass and enact hundreds of laws and policies to protect our environment, protect consumers and hold corporations and government accountable to the public. At the same time, we’ve built a thriving network with hundreds of professional staff and a presence in 35 states.
The Budget Department works with all of the organizations in our network to ensure we continue to employ that model for success. We ensure the financial health of our organizations, help to set the plans for future growth and ensure that our network as a whole is on track to hit our goals. We also work to cut costs through national contracts and effective management of valuable resources and staff tools.
Manage major vendor contracts. Maintain insurance policies for organizations in 30+ states, work with vendors to ensure accurate billing and delivery of services, and identify and propose additional national vendors where needed.
Managing current equipment resources. Maintain database of computers and related equipment, work with national staff to re-allocate, maintain and troubleshoot our equipment. Identify new solutions to our equipment and related needs.
Cost cutting. The administrator identifies opportunities for cost savings across the networks and implements those strategies. This includes working with vendors and negotiating contracts as well as tracking and allocating resources amongst our organizations.
Budget Planning, Analysis and Monitoring. The administrator works with the Budget Director and other senior staff to plan organizational and project budgets and identify opportunities for more efficient use of resources. The administrator also assists in collecting and reviewing spending and income reports throughout the year.
Candidates should thrive under pressure, be detail-oriented, have strong problem solving skills and the maturity to manage confidential and sensitive information, along with a track record of exercising independent judgment and ability to oversee multiple projects. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of relevant administrative experience, preferably in an activist, campaign or non-profit environment. Candidates must be comfortable working with Windows, Google Drive, Excel/Google Sheets and large databases. A minimum two-year commitment is required.
Compensation and Benefits:
The annual compensation range for this position is $31,000-$40,000 and depends on relevant experience and education. The Public Interest Network offers an excellent benefits package. Our benefits package may include medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and dependents, needs-based student loan assistance, 401(k) plan with employer match, commuter benefit program, paid time off, parental leave and long-term disability insurance. We also offer an excellent training program and opportunities for advancement.
