Environment Georgia Fellow
Posted on: November 28, 2017
Environment Georgia envisions a state where every community has easy access to clean water, clean air, and clean energy; where protecting the places that make this state beautiful is a forgone conclusion; where climate change is not a dirty word but a phrase that inspires action and innovation in all of Georgia’s communities; where lead and other pollutants don’t contaminate the water we drink; and where solar is something that every Georgian can participate in.
As Environment Georgia’s Municipal Fellow, you’ll work in cities and counties to build support for smart policies that help make “Solar for All” a reality and “Get the Lead Out” of Georgia’s schools.
About the job
Environment Georgia’s Fellow will work directly with Environment Georgia’s Director and use a variety of tactics, including grassroots organizing, advocacy, media communications, social media, fundraising, and coalition building, to win real results for Georgia’s environment. Environment Georgia is a statewide, citizen-based environmental advocacy organization. We stand up to polluting industries, fight for a green future, and do what it takes to win. We believe in a future Georgia where everyone can enjoy clean air, clean water, and the amazing green spaces and coast that our state has to offer.
Environment Georgia is part of a national federation of environmental groups with offices in 29 states and Washington, D.C.
What you’ll do
Build powerful coalitions: Reach out to neighborhood associations, PTA’s, small business owners, public health officials, and others to demonstrate support for our policy goals.
Earn traditional media and social media attention: Organize news conferences and write opinion pieces. Build a following on Facebook and Twitter for your campaigns.
Organize in the Community: Organize town halls and community meetings to educate Georgians about our work and priorities.
Lobby decision makers: push decision makers at universities and city councils to support our policy goals. Work the “inside game” to complement our outside field operation, where most of our power is derived.
Run a grassroots campaign office: Hire and manage a staff of 20 canvassers. Raise money, build our organization and membership, and help win one of our key campaigns.
Identify and cultivate donors: Reach out to foundations and major donors and ask them to fund our work to fight global warming, promote clean energy, and protect our most spectacular natural areas.
Ideal candidates will have some experience organizing or advocating on a college campus or in their community along with a demonstrated commitment to protecting Georgia’s environment.
Pay & Benefits
The target annual compensation for this position is $27,000 in the first year. Environment Georgia offers a competitive benefits package. We also offer an excellent training program and opportunities for advancement.
