Job description
Budget Operations Administrator: The Public Interest Network
The Budget Department of The Public Interest Network seeks a smart, committed, and detail-oriented candidate to join our team as an Operations Administrator in Chicago, IL or Denver, CO.
The Public Interest Network is the parent organization of more than a dozen nonprofit advocacy groups, including PIRG, which advocates for consumers and the public interest; Environment America, which promotes policies and action that make the world a greener and healthier place; and the National Environmental Law Center, which takes legal action against companies that violate clean air and water laws.
Through these groups, we tackle problems from multiple angles: Environment America is fighting climate change by winning policies to move us to 100% renewable energy; PIRG is working to electrify our transportation system; NELC is suing companies who pollute our air and water to force them to bear the true cost of their business practices.
We take a principled, pragmatic approach in our work. We connect big ideas to concrete policy changes that improve the quality of our environment and people’s lives. We’re transpartisan — we want to reach everyone who might agree with us from across the political spectrum. We value dialogue over polarization. We are clear about what our mission is, and we stick to it. We invest in people and strategies that deliver results — we are advocates, lobbyists, campaigners, litigators, policy researchers and grassroots organizers.
Our Budget team helps us make all of this happen. We ensure the financial health of our organizations, help to set the plans for future growth and ensure that our network as a whole is on track to hit our goals. We also work to cut costs for our organizations and manage network-wide resources and staff tools.
If our vision for a better world excites you, then we hope you will apply.
Key Responsibilities:
The Operations Administrator works with the Budget Department Director to provide planning and operations support to all of our organizations. Representative responsibilities include:
- Organizational operations: Manage communication, billing and service delivery with vendors supporting our organizations and staff. You’ll manage the resources they deliver and manage contracts with outside vendors.
- Staff support: Ensure staff have the hardware and office resources to meet their goals. Create and maintain tracking systems and reallocate resources as needed.
- Planning and Analysis: work with organization directors and other senior staff to plan organizational and project budgets and identify opportunities for more efficient use of resources.
Qualifications:
Applicants must be goal-driven and sharp, with a track record of exercising independent judgment and discretion to solve problems. Top candidates will be driven by the idea of building a non-profit organization, have an outstanding work ethic, and the maturity to manage confidential and/or sensitive information. Ideal candidates will have one to three years of experience (not necessarily in the non-profit arena), but we will consider entry level candidates with strong volunteer and campus leadership. Candidates must be comfortable working with Windows, Google Drive and Excel/Google Sheets. Candidates must be able to make a two-year commitment to the position.
Compensation and Benefits:
The annual compensation range for this position is $32,000-$40,000 and depends on relevant experience and education. The Public Interest Network offers an excellent benefits package. Our benefits package may include medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and dependents, needs-based student loan assistance, 401(k) plan with employer match, commuter benefit program, paid time off, parental leave and long-term disability insurance. We also offer an excellent training program and opportunities for advancement.
COVID-19: We take COVID-19 safety very seriously. Employees must follow our COVID safety protocols and be fully vaccinated and boostered. Accommodations are provided to the extent required by law.
