Job description

 

NJPIRG Student Chapters is hiring referendum coordinators for Newark, New Brunswick, and Camden to oversee and run the student referendum on NJPIRG Student Chapters at Rutgers University! The referendum coordinator runs the campaign from start to finish.  Coordinators work closely with the Rutgers community and NJPIRG organizers.

 

New Jersey Public Interest Research Group Student Chapters is a student-run student-funded public interest non-profit at Rutgers University. NJPIRG Student Chapters has been at Rutgers for over 40 years. NJPIRG Student Chapters is a statewide student organization that works to protect the environment, fight hunger and homelessness, and promote civic engagement. 

Every three years, students at Rutgers University reaffirm their decision to fund NJPIRG Student Chapters through a referendum vote. Students at all of the colleges of Rutgers University will have the opportunity to vote. This referendum, over 20,000 students will cast their ballots.

 

Specifically coordinators are responsible for:

  1. Hiring, training and overseeing poll workers and ballot counters as necessary.
  2. Distributing materials, including ballots, polling signs, and other materials to poll workers.
  3. Distributing, maintaining an accurate count of, and impounding the ballots.
  4. Paying all referendum staff and maintaining accurate records of all hours and pay accrued.
  5. Ensuring that all polling places are staffed at all times. 
  6. Tabulating and counting ballots.

 

Qualifications: We are looking for someone who is ready to take on responsibility for running the referendum campaign. The ideal candidate works hard, is goal-oriented, can think strategically, and works well with people! This is a full time position for up to 8 weeks (end of sept. – Nov.) during which time the referendum coordinator should expect to work about 60 – 80 hours/week.

 

Locations: New Brunswick, Newark and Camden

Compensation: Approximately $6156 for full 9 week engagement

Timeline: We are looking to hire someone who can start as early as Sept 26th and can work through the end of the referendum on November 25th.
