Effective activists aren’t born, they’re trained. The Public Interest Network’s Training Center trains hundreds of professional results-oriented activists every year in the craft of organizing and advocacy.
Over our 45-year history, our trainees have taken the skills they’ve developed with us and run campaigns to preserve the environment, protect public health, and promote civic engagement, and have become leaders of Environment America, PIRG, Greenpeace, Green Corps, League of Conservation Voters, and Sierra Club, among other organizations.
Representative Responsibilities
Drive the Training Center’s mission of providing professional training on organizing and advocacy for all staff of groups in The Public Interest Network. The Associate Director will manage the annual training calendar, consisting of in-person trainings around national meetings, in-office trainings, online trainings, and work with leadership staff to run each training.
Manage and regularly update our training curriculum, which includes 3 weeks of entry-level training content, job-specific training, and dozens of advanced trainings on social change skills, strategy, and theory, as well as primers on the issue areas of focus for groups in The Public Interest Network.
Work with The Public Interest Network leadership to plan and run staff events and trainings for our 400+ new and experienced staff, including managing the event budgets and logistics.
Qualifications
We’re looking for someone who is passionate about the issues that The Public Interest Network works on and is motivated by our mission and strategies for making change. Candidates should be strong trainers, skilled at working with people of varying levels of experience, and looking for a challenging, fast-paced work environment. The ideal candidate will have a track record of managing large projects, such as coordinating multi-day events with 100+ attendees. Candidates must have at least 1-2 years of relevant experience including work with political campaigns, issue advocacy, and staff or volunteer management. Candidates must have excellent judgment and discretion.
Compensation & Benefits
Target annual compensation for this position is commensurate with the relevant professional experience and/or advanced degrees that a candidate has. The Public Interest Network offers a competitive benefits package. A minimum 2-year commitment is required.
Location
